The Norfolk Island pine (Araucaria heterophylla) is native to Norfolk Island. It is a conifer with branches arranged in regular, horizontal whorls, covered in small, needle-like, deep green leaves. It has a highly symmetrical, slender, pyramidal crown, the shape of which varies due to wind and sudden temperature changes.
Young specimens are often used as houseplants, where they thrive. They are also commonly used as Christmas trees.
